SAN DIEGO/GUANGZHOU, May 14, 2015 – The PACAVI Group and GAMECO (Guangzhou Aircraft Maintenance Engineering, Co., Ltd.) announced today that they have expanded their strategic partnership to conduct the serial production of Airbus A320 and A321 passenger to freighter conversions at the GAMECO facility in Guangzhou, China.

GAMECO will also convert PACAVI’s Airbus A321 Freighter LITE prototype in Guangzhou.

PACAVI Group CEO Dr. Stephan Hollmann commented on the details of the groundbreaking program: “Our joint project team will commence conversion of the A321 prototype no later than the fourth quarter of 2015. We want to have the conversion available for both the A320 and the A321 almost simultaneously, beginning in 2017, to hit the marketplace when demand is at a peak”.

Norbert Marx, General Manager of GAMECO, added: “The prospects for the A320 and A321 freighters to serve our markets is one of the most exciting developments I’ve seen since I entered this industry twenty years ago. Doing the A321 passenger to freighter prototype in Guangzhou adds greatly to this. This is a win for us, and an excellent development for China’s aviation and aerospace industry as well. China currently combines swift growth for cargo and express carriers with the domestic availability of quality Airbus feedstock. Our doing the first A321 freighters here in China adds new design, manufacturing and service capabilities. To coin a phrase, it’s a win-win-win for all parties”.

The partners also agreed on joint marketing activities, including opening of a marketing center in Guangzhou to target conversion customers in the region. The agreement also includes aftermarket support for regional A320 and A321 conversion customers.

Passenger-to-freighter conversion of PACAVI’s Airbus A320 Freighter LITE prototype, started in January, is progressing on schedule at the HAITEC facility in Frankfurt/Hahn (Germany).
